Cindy, English, and Aussie

As I already told u, I got ‘intermediate’ for my EF online English test (www.ef.com)
So today’s topic is English and I.

I learn English quite quickly. Got great grades when I was in elementary. Maybe because my Dad so good at English (he went to British Council at London). But when I entered junior high, things were different! I often got 5 out of 10 for English exams. Why? Because most of it was grammar exams and I didn’t do well on that. And the English teacher, Miss Ria… She’s a great great GREAT English teacher and I learnt a lot from her.
Maybe that’s why  I managed to get good scores when I went to high school. She forced us to memorize irregular verbs (but now I realised… that was very useful!)

So how did I learn English other than that? I have 4 cousins from Singapore. Of course they speak English. I learn ‘Conversation’ a lot from talking with them. Also I learn my grammar from ‘Reading’ Anastasia’s blog (of course she wrote it in English!) and Ana’s blog (she wrote it in English mixed with Indonesian).  I learn ‘Listening’  from watching cable TV (AXN, Animax, Star World, E! Entertainment, etc) which don’t have any Indonesian subtitles. Oh also I have 2 English novel: The Magician’s Guild (Trilogy by Trudi Canavan, Australian) and Artemis Fowl Files (Eoin Colfer, Irish)

Hey, but things went differently (again) when I went to Sydney and Canberra for my holiday (after I graduated form high school). Gee, I almost don’t understand what they were saying. Actually I will understand better if only they spoke a lil bit slowly and not with that strange accent (sumpah logatnya aneh banget). For example, they greet us with ‘Good day!’ but since they spoke it so quickly, I thought they were saying ‘Gede…" X-D huahahaha…. So funny lah.
(I often use ‘lah’ –> this is from Singaporean English. Don’t know since when I used ‘lah). Oh I was 18 yrs old when I went there. Someone thought I was 13 yrs old! OMG! (Btw this girl was only 17 yrs old. 1 yrs younger than me and she thought that I was 4 yrs younger than her). And I think she won’t believe me until I shown my ID card. So embarrassing. And I fell down from a ski board. Got bruises in my FACE. So extremely embarrassing. Mount Blue Cow (Canberra) and that Perisher resort was just a huge bad experience from me.

But I loved that ‘Wonderland’ theme park. Just right next to the Zoo. Cute kangaroos and koalas… Oh I want to go there again! Koalas not smelly. They smell like guavas. Maybe because their food is eucalyptus (btw this thing is good when u had flu). If u play Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, there’s a roller coaster that looks like the roller coaster at Wonderland theme park (at Wonderland it called ‘Demon’). And I love Space Probe, it just like Roto Drop a Roller Coaster Tycoon. I really grateful I can go there. But I still pray someday I can go to London, Japan, and a pilgrim to Holy land….

Hey, I think I started to love writing blog entries in English. Must keep this up!
